Story

Crimson Cortex, a sixteen year-old coming from a troubled circumstance, rode in on the back of his riding dog Arcaten into the town of Triska. Searching for a new place to live had been taxing but he had made his way by performing odd jobs. Arriving in the settlement provided him with that same opportunity. He hitched his canine outside and entered the town's library. He entered the building to meet an elven woman with hair braided around a staff. She introduced herself as Uurojaale, and pointed the young man to the board of listed help wanted before returning to her thick tome.

Vorga Teshkeeyl, a twenty-six year old half-orc descended down the stairs of his dwarven father's home and forge. Ogren Teshkeeyl had found the abandoned half-orc a quarter of a century prior. The awkward half-orc informed his adoptive father he'd go search for an odd job to bring in food money. He left out and walked down the road past a single dandelion with a curled stem. He walked into the library as he would normally, and quietly greeted the elven woman and turned towards the job board. Vorga met the gaze of Crimson.

Crimson looked upon him the same way he would examine an inconsistency. Vorga's tall stature and imposing physique betrayed the caved in stance and blank questioning expression. The two introduced themselves and were amicable from the start. They agreed to take on the most recently posted request and embark to aid a farmer named Ngyuen a few miles outside of the town. Crimson let loose his horse from it's capture sphere to allow Vorga to travel more swiftly. Traveling out they gave a little insight to each other. Crimson, an animal trainer raised by his mother, an accomplished doctor, and Vorga a martial adept trained and raised by his adoptive father, the town smith. Arriving out to Ngyuen's farm they found the old cat-folk man on his farm of riding dogs. He informed the pair that strange creatures had been roving around in the wooded area where he had been grazing his horses. The two went out down to where the farmer had told them and found a horse-sized worm-like creature bearing eight tentacles spooling off from it's dripping chin. Upon approaching it they were ambushed by three more creatures. Their tentacles paralytic agents which crippled the two almost spelling their doom before Crimson called forth his Giant Crocodile "P-B". The reptile made quick work of the massive worms.

After their plight had finished, Vorga admired Crimson's intricate Chainsaw-Katana as Crimson collected a strange teardrop shaped sapphire stone. Returning to Ngyuen, they assured him that his grazing field was cleared of menaces. His payment to them was a large supply of food, enough salted meat and vegetables to last a few weeks. They returned back to the town of Triska to Vorga's home at Vorga's invitation. Crimson met the half-orc's dad and the dwarf offered the young human a place to stay, as he'd been the first friend that Vorga had really found. Crimson showed the dwarf the sapphire, and he informed him he could find an appraiser for it around town.Their first encounter had been fruitful, and they decided the next day that they would continue to look for work around the community.

Returning to the library, they found postings for both a delivery route of of newspapers from the nearby burgeoning city of Ceri or working on construction projects under the stead of the town foreman Eckert Ritter. Feeling they both could be steady work, but not knowing anything of building or construction they decided to attempt to apply to deliver newspapers. They arrived at the printing press at the south side of town and were greeted by Ryan Burkhart, a sixteen year-old half-elf. He was terse with the two of them, as their entrance startled him into dropping his coffee on a set of newspaper copies, informing them that there was only one opening. The press's supervisor Raldo R. Roberts  walked out front and seeing the mess inquired to its origin to which Crimson and Vorga pointed out it was Ryan's doing. This caused Ryan to be fired from his position, and a second position to become available. Raldo hired the two adventurers and directed them to deliver a set of newspapers to the residents south of the town.

The two started along the route discussing their varied martial training. Vorga expressed that he understood things better when conveyed through combat, feeling that he understood the monsters he fights better than the people in town he talks to. He wanted to spar with Crimson, but the animal trainer was not intent on engaging in a fight with the half-orc. They dropped off a paper to a hostler named Anne Harast on her farm, to which she noted to them they were running significantly later than the previous runner, and to make haste. The two hustled along continuing the route arriving eventually to a construction site on the outskirts of the farmlands headed by Eckert Ritter. The foreman thanked the two of them for delivering the newspapers. Ritter took the chance to make a request to Vorga for his father to smith a set of helmets for the workers, as the set of helmets they had were of poor quality to which Vorga said he would deliver the request.

Eckert's gratitude was cut short by one of his workers, Marcel Harast hurriedly delivering distressing news of strange creatures attacking the site and incapacitating another worker, Metzge Kielbovski. When opportunity knocked, the foreman was not one to refuse to answer. Noting the two were armed, he asked that they go assist Metzge offering to pay an increased price for the helmets request. The two obliged heading down the road to aid Metzge, who they found unconscious surrounded by more strange worm creatures with bizarre tentacles hanging from it's mouth alongside a small floating one-eyed head with multiple smaller eyes attached to stalks protruding off its form. The two dispatched the paralytic worms but had great difficulty dealing with the floating head, its strange eyes projecting debilitating beams. When the situation looked its darkest, Crimson once again let loose 'P-B', frightening the somewhat injured disembodied head into running away.

After it's departure, Crimson and Vorga aided Metzge in returning to town. Crimson felt it would be beneficial to attempt to have their wounds tended to by someone in town, however both Vorga and Metzge, who had awoken, declined stating that the only medic in town was also a fanatic Milenian Cleric named Misaja. Vorga took Metzge back to his home in town while Crimson traveled to the town's Milenian Chapel. Crimson walked in to find a tan skinned woman with blonde hair directing a choir. Their practice ended as he walked through the aisle. The singers walked out and the woman turned her attention to the youth approaching her. He asked her for help, and she responded by providing him a religious anecdote.

Vorga brought Metzge back to his home wishing him health and strength from the Giant's Deity Jerowisch. The half-orc then returned home informing his father of the offer from the foreman for work. Ogren was elated to have new work provided and had his own proposal for his son. Ogren had met an appraiser in town to sell the sapphire they to had found to. She was also interested in having the two adventurers fetch something for her. Vorga was interested and went to the chapel so he could ask Crimson if he was as well. He reached the chapel to find Crimson listening patiently to the cleric. She finished her parable with a touch of her hand to his shoulder accompanied by a light that began to seal some of his wounds from the encounter prior in the day.

With an artless form, Vorga requested to have his wounds healed as well. The cleric very derisively remarked that his wounds were his own doing and he ought to make better choices with his life before providing a minimal divine mending to his wounds. The two friends left the chapel and outside as Crimson tended to Arcaten, Vorga informed him that his father had found them a job from an appraiser in town. Crimson agreed that it sounded like a good opportunity, but they should probably rest for the night. They returned to Vorga and Ogren's home to eat dinner and rest for the night, resolved to inquire to the appraiser the next day.

The following day the two ventured down to the bar where they were told to meet the appraiser they had been told about. Kiana Malie Noelani, though a forgetful merg woman had a job for the two adventurers, to acquire the third gem in the set they had found. A ruby teardrop probably resided on an island shortly off shore to the west, and Noelani's client had an interest in completing the set. The two agreed to undertake the challenge and agreed to meet her later at her inn accommodations after gathering supplies for the trip. Upon returning to her Noelani, a forgetful merg woman answered their arrival half-dressed. Whereas Vorga averted his gaze with overt discomfort, crimson awkwardly attempted to not be gazing when Noelani would notice, then resigned to believing she wouldn't remember if he did anyway. She supplied them with a set of bags that would transport the contents of their bag to the receiving bag so that the exchange would be completed with utmost speed.

The two left out from Triska traveling for about a week before reaching a boating vessel docked nearby a shack. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the owner of the boat was in fact Ogren's estranged brother Toren. Through familial empathy he ferried Vorga and Crimson to the island they needed to reach a short ways off the shore and fished in the meandering time while they explored the caves of the island in search of the ruby teardrop. Sitting in the sand before the mouth of the cave was a long sword with some intricate etchings laid over the blade and hilt, catching Vorga's attention. The sword lit with flames when swung and provided them with easy light in the cave. Surveying the cave they found themselves assailed by strange blob-like creatures with disjointed mouths and eyes covering their forms. All the while the two were accosted by the ghostly form of a mermaid. Upon reaching the center of the cave they found a gate to a different plane replete with strange and horrifying creatures defying description and explanation flying through the air. at the foot of the gate sat the ruby teardrop which they absconded with and made great haste to exit the cave and leave from the island their mission complete. Vorga rejoiced over having encountered such an interesting weapon and expressed to Crimson his continued desire to fight him to gain a better understanding between them, though Crimson continued to refuse.

Returning to the Teshkeeyl home the two settled back in with a well deserved dinner afforded by their latest adventure and Ogren's commission. In the middle of the night however the two young men awoke to the sounds of crying in the downstairs of the house. A quick peer into the kitchen area revealed to them that the same ghostly mermaid they had encountered seemingly had followed them. Vorga attempted to wake his father with the news that there was an interloper in the house, but Ogren's deep slumber only made him non-sensical in his response stating that he needs to learn to talk to women eventually. Unable to rouse his father, Vorga returned to Crimson asking the animal trainer to attempt to communicate with the spirit. Crimson begrudgingly obliged his acquaintance and began to try to speak with her.
