PostSubject: Vehicles and Mecha   Tue Sep 25, 2012 4:48 am

Vehicles are a common presence in suburbs, rural areas, and less-urbanised zones without the same extensive public rail system as heavily urbanised cities. Almost all vehicles are powered by a combined solar electric battery and a liquid fuel cell. The military, as a matter of course, makes extensive use of vehicles to enhance mobility and combat effectiveness.

If a vehicle takes damage equal to its hit points, it is disabled. If it takes damage equal to 2 x its hit points, it is permanently disabled. If it takes damage equal to 4x its hit points, it explodes violently dealing damage as a devastating explosive.

Civilian Vehicles are vehicles available on the civilian market. They improve a character's ability to transport themselves.

Civilian Aircraft are methods of transporting oneself through the air. These include commercial hovercraft as well as helicopters, hovercraft, and fixed-wing aeroplanes.

Hover Car
Hover Cars come in many varieties and models, from various manufacturers. They utilise basic magnetic repulsion and life fans to lift into the air up to a hundred meters and propel themselves through the air. A hybrid of aircraft and motor vehicles, they require rigorous licensing, but allow motor traffic to extend to the low skies. Cover cars are generally two squares wide and three squares long.

Bell Pigeon 44
The Pigeon 44 is a light, civil use helicopter built to carry small passenger or cargo. It is the commercial version of the military Dove liaison helicopter. It is a simple single-engine, tandem-rotor craft. The Pigeon is two squares wide and five squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and passengers.

Bell Shearwater 7
The civil version of the Petrel utility helicopter, manufactured by Bell Corporation, this is a twin-engine, twin-rotor craft. It is a sturdy, reliable rotorcraft. The Shearwater is three squares wide and seven squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and passengers (one-quarter cover for passengers if the cargo doors are open).

Boeing Sheldgoose
The Sheldgoose is another civil version of a military aircraft. This one is of the enormous Swan aerodyne, a fanjet-powered rotorcraft that uses its jet-like fan engines to hover and fly with relative ease. It can hold upwards of thirty people, copious cargo and equipment, and is normally used for business or search-and-rescue purposes. The Sheldgoose is nine squares wide (including engines; fuselage is three squares wide) and fifteen squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and total cover for passengers.

Bell Skyhopper
This is a small, single-engine turboprop aircraft with a high-wing planform. They are designed for personal use and small passenger crews. Much of the craft is automated, requiring only one pilot. The Skyhopper is seven squares wide (including wings; fuselage is one square wide) and six squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and passengers.

British Aerospace J50 Private Jet
This is a fairly large, yet sleek business jet powered by twin turbofans and modern synthetic liquid fuels. The interior includes luxury accommodations and a lavatory. They are typically used as corporate jets or as private use aircraft by the wealthy. A J50 is ten squares wide (including wings; fuselage is two squares wide) and twelve squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and nine-tenths cover for passengers.

Boeing Atom 5 Jumbo Jet
This enormous jet transport is powered by a small nuclear reactor and nuclear jet engines, placed upon a dart-like planform that enables supersonic flight. The interior includes coach and luxury accommodations for upwards of two hundred people. It is the largest non-spaceplane aircraft that conducts commercial transport. The aircraft is thirteen squares wide (including wings; fuselage is three squares wide) and forty six squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and nine-tenths cover for passengers.

Orbital Sciences S-400 Spaceplane
Built by OSC, the S-400 is a genuine spaceplane. Nuclear scramjets allow it to lift into the sky and reach hypersonic speeds in orbit. This capability lets the S-400 carry itself to any point on a planet. However, it can only contain half as many passengers and cargo as the Atom 5. It is the most common planetary-transport spaceplane in use across the Terran sphere of influence. The S-400 is thirteen squares wide (including wings; fuselage is three squares wide) and twenty squares long. It provides three-quarters cover for crew and nine-tenths cover for passengers.

Mitsubishi SC-001 Orbital Shuttle
The Mitsubishi Group builds this commonly-used orbital shuttle. Like the S-400, it uses advanced nuclear engines to launch itself into orbit. Unlike the S-400, however, it utilises mainly liquid-fuel rockets and solid-fuel boosters. It can carry a payload or passenger module to an orbital station or a natural satellite. Unlike commercial spaceplanes and aircraft that are operated by a plethora of airlines and spaceflight providers, the Orbital Shuttle is almost exclusively sold to government spaceports. The SC-001 is nine squares wide (including wings; fuselage is three squares wide) and fifteen squares long (thirty squares including booster). Its structure provides nine-tenths cover for crew and passengers.

Mecha, formally called "Mechanized Walkers" are specialised vehicles that strike a midway point between powered exoskeleton suits and tracked vehicles. They come many sizes and are used in many different fields. Mecha are driven by one or two pilots in cockpit, controlling their machines with advanced technology.
Mecha are constructed using synthetic myosin polymers, an artificial muscle fibre bundled together around a superstructure, and electric motors to give it humanoid mobility. Extensive robotics and automation aids considerably in allowing fluid motion. The pilot's sense of balance is key to this: a neural link helmet connects a mecha pilot's sense of balance and motor control to the computer system, allowing the walkers to move without easily toppling over.
Operators of mecha are immune the effects of inhaled and contact diseases, inhaled and contact poisons, as well as to hot, cold, corrosive, and toxic environments, the effects of vacuum, and mild and low radiation. A mecha's cockpit storage and life support system provides up to 24 hours worth of air and consumables for the pilot.

Weaponry
These armaments are able to be placed on various kinds of vehicles. These are categorised based on weapon type: Gun, Artillery, Energy, and Missile. Where relevant, the weapon also indicates the number of equipment slots it takes up when integrated to a mechanized walker. All vehicular weapons have a critical of 20x2.

Guns
Guns include machine guns and autocannons, firing directly just like their small-arm counterparts.
Spoiler:

Artillery
These weapons are large-bore pieces, sometimes through direct-fire and some through indirect fire. Indirect fire weapons of this category take a +4 bonus to hit, which reduces the starting penalty for indirect fire.
Spoiler:

Energy
Directed energy weapons are powered electrically and transpose radiation to a target to cause damage. These include lasers, masers, and plasma weapons. Energy weapons ignore armour, natural armour, shield, and deflection bonuses to defence for people and vehicles, rendering armour and energy shields ineffective.
Spoiler:

Missile
Missiles are self-propelled weapons, typically containing some kind of explosive warhead, deployed from a launcher or pod device. They can be mounted on many kinds of vehicles, and are widely used in place of guns for artillery.
